Lorgnettes, 19th c

The ‘ hinged lorgnet ‘ was invented in 1818 by the french optician m. Lepage and called it ‘ face-a-main brisee ‘. The lorgnettes are made from turtle attached to the frame, with a bridge hinge. At the bottom is a ring attached so that the ladies could carry the lorgnette as a brooch. Lengths 15 cm and the left one on the picture is sold.
