J.P. Kipp & Son Fortin type Barometer, 1863

A signed “P.J. Kipp and Son” Fortin type barometer, from Delft and manufactured in 1863. The barometer is situated on a mahogany backboard. Nicolas Fortin (1750-1831) designed a cylindrical glass reservoir with a leather bottom. With a screw and the leather bottom they managed the mercury level. With a pen in the reservoir the mercury was placed at the tip of the pins which resulted in the zero point of the barometer. This Fortin barometer type was used in laboratory for research. Length 110 cm.
