Botanical Withering microscope, C 1800.
On application
The Withering botanical cased microscope is dating to about the year 1800, is constructed by brass with a solid stage. Supported by two brass rods are original lens casings at each end. The brass stage can be moved up or down to focus. This construction differs from Withering’s description in that the original instrument had three pillars, rather than the two as this one. This instrument is contained in a Marrocco red leather covered cylindrical case. It is a plain one because here aren’t holes in the stage which could be used to store a tweezer and two additional instruments such as dissecting needles or a scalpel. Diameter case 4,5 cm by 7,5 cm high.
