A Budinger, Vienna Gasometer or Calorimeter
This hand calorimeter was manufactured under the German patent of Dr. Strache-Kling, and is called Loeffler Model. It was submitted to the National Bureau of Standards for testing in April 1927, in response to a circular letter asking various manufacturers for information on available gas testing devices. The principle is to draw a small amount of gas into a pipette; add enough air and ignite. The rise in temperature of a mercury thermometer measures the heat evolved.
