This ebony coddington lens of circa 1880 of tiny measurements is made from beautiful turned ebony wood and the glass lens.
The Coddington type lens was invented at 1829. The type of basic magnifiers were very popular throughout the 19th century. People had them with them all the time to examine the cell structures of leaves, the crystalline structures of stones or anything else that took their scientific fancy.
