Microcephalic head
On application
This black painted plaster microcephalic head shows us a cask of a female who suffered from microcephaly which is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder that restricts brain development. It leads to smaller head size than usual and is also called pinhead. This depicts the natural view of the head.
A similar model, made between 1800-1820, is to be found at the collection of the Science Museum in London . The cast of the young woman’s head called Victoire came from the collection of the British Phrenological Society. Phrenology, the controversial study of cranial shape as an indicator of mental faculties and character, was dismissed by many as a pseudo-science.
