Cranial trephine by Sabatneck of Vienna, 19th century

A 19th century Cranial trephine by Sabatneck of Vienna. Trephines are circular saws for removing a disk of bone from the cranium or skull. Down the central shaft is a pin for engaging the instrument in the skull. When engaged it is rotated by an ebony handle. Made of steel and ebony wood, signed ‘Sabatneck Wien’.
Dimensions: 8,5 x 17,5 cm.
