French armillary sphere with orrery, 1856

An unsigned French copernican armillary sphere incorporating an orrery. It is made of brass, wood and pasteboard with applied French engraved paper. The armillary planets are centrally held by a brass stem which is mounted by four screws to a brass plate on an ebonized wood stand. It has various representations of the sun, Mercury, Venus, the earth and moon, an unnamed gore, a dated descriptive gore, Jupiter, Uranus, leverrier or Neptune. The last gore referrers to Urbain Le Verrier, who discovered Neptune in 1846. The other gore which gives the date of this globe, 1856 gives a description of asteroid which where discovered around 1856.

Although it is not signed, it is similar in design and construction to others produced by the Delamarche family of French globe makers.
