These types of basic magnifiers were very populat throughout the 19th c. People had them with them all the time to examine the cellstructures of leaves, the cristalline structures of stones or anything else that took their scientific fancy. This tiny instrument was made from beautifull turned ivory and with the glass ‘coddington’ lens (invented in 1829) mounted in a metal sleeve. Length 5,2 cm.
