Amongst the many styles of brittish medicine chests, the most popular was undoubtedly the type that opens like a trunk. This style was fashionable in the late 18th and again the second half of the 19th c.. It has a lifting lid and a drawer at the base. A brass retaining rod ensures that the drawer can not be opened once the chest has been closed and locked. The chest has it’s 12 original bottles, a mortar and pestle, two powder tins, measure glass, tweezers, some weights and a spatula and tile.
