A fine Cary- or Could type microscope signed on the side by West london. The microscope mounts on top of the mahogany case and stands 30cm tall. Focus is controlled by rack and pinion movement of the stage. Several lenses accompany the set. They may be stacked for a total of four focal lengths. The slide stage is removable for storage. The mirror is concave with age veining. A stage forceps completes the set. The microscope is finished in
Lacquered brass, showing wear appropriate to age. The microscope is housed in its own darkblue velvet lined mahogany case. The case measures 16.5 x 14.5 x 4.5cm. This microscope is typical of the Cary-Gould type field instruments popular in the first quarter of the 19th century.
