Charriere Trepan drill, C 1850

A Charriere trepan brace with a hatched ebony handle and a extra drill. The centre piece of the bit allow the drill to be centered and once the outer teeth had engaged it would be withdrawn so as to prevent further intracranial injury. The additional drilling, signed with Charriere A Paris, can be firmly bolted on the bit (see Photo 2). Length 31 cm and the ebony, brass and steel are in good condition, one small crack in the ebony at the top . The drill is described in “Medecine operatoire et ophthalmologie chirugicale dánatomie by Claude Bernard”.
