Admiral fitzroy (1805-1865) was captain of ‘hms beagle’ that took charles darwin to patagonia. However following his retirement from the governorship of new-zealand, he turned his attention to meteorology and invented his barometer. This simple mahogany one has paper scales with explanation on the back, a alcohol thermometer (fahrenheit) and a storm glass, all behind glass. 94cm high and 22cm wide.
