A French small P. Le Maire silver Sundial in original case Circa 1720. Unusual size for a sundial, measurements are 5,2 x 4,5 x 0,6 cm. This octagonal dial insert with a compass, adjustable gnomon with bird-form indicator, rear engraved with European cities, latitudes and longitudes. An early 18th-Century silver Le maire compass sundial, signed on the horizontal plate P. Le Maire a Paris. The inset compass with compass points, blued-iron needle with silver dial glazed cover, the folding gnomon with bird-shaped pointer, and graduated 40° – 60°, the underside engraved with the latitudes for cities and towns, supported on a turned silver foot. The leather case with green velvet is in good condition.
