A brass microscope made by R. Field & Son, New street Birmingham. C 1865. The microscope is a “Drum-Type” instrument having a microscope body that slides into a cylindrical base as opposed to being cantilevered.The base has a cutout on one side to accommodate the sample. At the bottom of the cutout is the sample stage, which is a platform just above the frame for illuminating mirror with two mirrors, flat and concave, located at the bottom of the base. Focusing is accomplished by sliding the microscope body up or down by a screw mechanism. Optics of this microscope consist of a single eye lens, field lens and objective. R. Field and Son was in business from 1855 till 1874.  Further in good condition without box. 26 cm High.
